Inaugural KAVALAN Green Leader Awards
  • For the inaugural Kavalan Green Leader Awards to be awarded in 2025, the assessment period will extend from 1 March 2020 to 28 February 2025.
  • Entries must be submitted in the format specified in the Entry Form for the relevant award category, taking care to adhere to the word limits, image resolution and file formats specified.
  • With the exception of the ‘Kavalan Champion’ award, which has its own specific criteria in this regard, all entries must be accompanied by at least three high resolution (min 300 dpi) images of the application being entered. If there are any specific aspects, such as a particular kind of finishing or installation, these should be clearly visible in at least one of the supporting images.
  • With the exception of the ‘Kavalan Champion’ award, which has its own specific criteria in this regard, where entries rely on figures generated using the Kavalan Eco Calculator, the figures entered to derive the result must be included in the entry so that these can be verified.

The Innovation Award
The Innovation Award recognises a particularly innovative, impactful, and creative project that utilises Kavalan Materials in a way that advances the wide-format printing sector.

The Green Spirit Award recognises a project that not only uses Kavalan material, but infuses sustainability and an eco-conscious approach in other areas.

The Powerhouse Award recognises a project that showcases a Kavalan material’s strength, durability, weldability or some combination of all three.

The Kavalan Champion Award
The Kavalan Champion Award is the only award category that celebrates an organisation rather than an application and will be awarded to a print business or distributor that is a champion and advocate of Kavalan products and advancing sustainability in the wide-format print industry more generally.

With the exception of the ‘Kavalan Champion’ award, which recognises a business, projects entered must have been printed on one of the following Kavalan materials:
  • Kavalan Sunlight (Sunlight 260, Sunlight 280GB, Sunlight 300, Sunlight 310 TAICHI, Sunlight Light Banner, Sunlight Weldable, Sunlight ZeRo and/or Sunlight Weldable Basic)
  • Kavalan Moonlight (Moonlight 200 and/or Moonlight River)
  • Kavalan Butterfly (Butterfly 360 Soft and/or Butterfly Weldable)
  • Kavalan Spiderweb (Spiderweb 300, Spiderweb Super and/or Spiderweb 300 L!ner)
  • Kavalan Gecko (Gecko 300, Gecko 320GB, Gecko DECO and/or Gecko FR-AD)
Meet the Judges of KAVALAN Green Leader Awards
Steve Lister, Global Sustainability Consultant
Steve has been driving sustainability initiatives for global brands, retailers & supply chain partners for over two decades. Recognised for his passion & commitment to delivering sustainability in retail he has been named for the second year running as one of RETHINK Retail’s Top Retail Experts in 2025, Steve works with clients to give them a deeper understanding of the impact of print marketing campaigns from design, materials, production and installation, to in-store marketing activations and end-of-life recycling.
In addition, Steve runs Make It Happen Sustainability Bootcamps, designed to equip companies and individuals with the tools to future proof their businesses and target green buyers; has been a judge for POPAI UK & Ireland’s SHOP! Global Awards for the past three years; and has delivered many engaging and inspiring keynotes, leveraging his extensive retail innovation experience.
Marcus Timson, Co-Founder of Future Print
Marcus entered the print sector in 2006 when he joined FESPA as Sales & Marketing Director, helping to grow the event business into a global platform. On leaving FESPA in 2011, Marcus co-founded FM Brooks, co-launching industry events InPrint and EcoPrint, with the latter focused on sustainability within print.
Marcus went on to co-found FM Future, launching FuturePrint, an online content platform and events organiser dedicated to developments in digital print technology, and is continuing to champion sustainability within print with FuturePrint’s new Sustainability Manifesto, working with a number of industry leaders to reduce the environmental impact of the print industry.
Nick Widdowson, Founder of ShopperFIRST and director at POPAI UK & Ireland
Nick has built an extensive career in retail, category management, and shopper marketing, applying deep shopper insight to enhance store environments and point-of-sale (POS) visibility. From his early retail experience at the Co-op and Superdrug to leading shopper research and innovation at Unilever, he has consistently championed data-driven decision-making.
As the founder of shopperFIRST, Nick continues to help businesses integrate sustainability into their shopper marketing strategies, ensuring that space planning, range assortment, and POS design are not only effective but also environmentally responsible. He also serves as a board member of POPAI UK & Ireland, further cementing his commitment to sustainable retail solutions.

What are the Kavalan Green Leader Awards?
The inaugural Kavalan Green Leader Awards programme will celebrate and recognise applications of Kavalan products, putting customers and users in the spotlight to highlight their work to innovate and create impactful print while also striving to make their work more environmentally responsible.
Who is eligible to apply for the awards?
Businesses producing wide-format print on Kavalan materials are eligible to enter any or all of the award categories. Businesses distributing Kavalan materials in any region are eligible to enter only the Kavalan Champion Award.
How many awards categories are there?
There are a total of five award categories:
  • The Innovation Award, which recognises a particularly innovative, impactful, and creative project that utilises Kavalan Materials in a way that advances the wide-format printing sector.
  • The Green Spirit Award, which recognises a project that not only uses Kavalan material, but infuses sustainability and an eco-conscious approach in other areas.

Can I enter more than one award?
Entrants to the Kavalan Champion Award may only submit one entry each. In the event that any entrant exceeds this, only the first entry submitted will be accepted. Entrants to all other Award Categories (Innovation Award, Green Spirit Award, Powerhouse Award, Wrap Star Award) may submit up to three entries per category. In the event that any entrant exceeds the maximum number of entries for any category, only the first three entries in that category will be accepted.
What is the assessment period for applications and projects entered into the awards?
For the inaugural Kavalan Green Leader Awards to be awarded in 2025, the assessment period will extend from 1 March 2020 to 28 February 2025.
What are the criteria for the awards?
With the exception of the Kavalan Champion Award, which recognises a business, projects entered must have been printed on Kavalan materials. Submissions will need to include written descriptions, as well as supporting imagery, data and testimonial evidence where necessary. How will the awards be judged?
Entries will be reviewed and evaluated by a panel of independent judges with expertise in wide-format print and sustainability.
How can I enter the awards?
Entries must be submitted in the format specified in the Entry Form for the relevant award category, taking care to adhere to the word limits, image resolution and file formats specified.
When do entries open?
Entries open on Monday 24th March 2025.
When is the deadline for final entry submission?
The deadline for final entry submission is 23:59 (UTC+01:00) on Wednesday 16th April 2025. Late entries will not be accepted.
Is there an entry fee?
No, there is no fee for entering the Kavalan Green Leader Awards.
Can I edit my entry after it’s been submitted?
No, you must ensure all information and supporting imagery is accurate and in line with the entry requirements prior to submitting your entry.
How will I be notified if successful?
Winners will be notified by email by Monday 28th April 2025 and announced at FESPA Global Print Expo in Berlin in May 2025.
What will successful entrants win?
Winners will receive a physical award that they can take with them to display proudly at their sites and share on social media. Winners also stand to benefit from the publicity surrounding the promotion of the awards.
How will the awards be presented?
Winners will be invited to collect their award at an informal celebratory reception on the Kavalan booth at FESPA Global Print Expo in Berlin in May 2025.
